Sri Lanka participated as an official tourism partner of the first ever Asian Village Festival of Singapore along with Indonesia and the Philippines from 3rd to 6th October 2024 at the Singapore Expo. The festival was organized by Shaabaz Pte Ltd in Singapore, with the objectives of promoting Asian culture, food, and business under one roof and creating business opportunities and prospects in the entire Asia region. The festival was attended by exhibitors and performers from Sri Lanka, India, Nepal, Indonesia, Singapore, and the Philippines displaying their products and talents and more than 20,000 visitors attended the event.
High Commissioner Senarath Dissanayake participated as the guest of honour of the event on October 3rd and the opening of the event was officiated with a ribbon-cutting ceremony by the High Commissioner of Sri Lanka together with Mr. Abdul Malieq, founder of Shaabaz Pte Ltd, and other dignitaries. Mr. Ahamed Razee, Head of Chancery and Mr. Yasantha Yaddehi, Minister (Commercial) of the High Commission joined the High Commissioner at the opening ceremony.
The High Commission arranged a vibrant and eye-catching tourism promotional booth that showcased the country’s rich cultural heritage and abundant natural resources, immersing visitors in a sensory experience through a performance by the Sri Lankan traditional dancers on the opening day, which attracted a large, enthusiastic crowd. Promotional videos on Sri Lanka tourism were screened on the digital screen at the main stage of the event and journalists from various you tube channels and newspapers conducted interviews with the Minister (Commercial) facilitating promotion of Sri Lanka tourism and culture among the Singaporeans.
The staff of the High Commission interacted and engaged with the visitors during the four-day event and disseminated information to many prospective travellers, including journalists, individual travellers, tour agents, and students who visited the Sri Lankan booth.
