Flood Situation in Sri Lanka: Contributions for Flood Relief Measures from Expatriate Community

Heavy monsoon rains in Sri Lanka during the last few days sent several areas of the country under water and caused landslides, affecting the people living in those areas.

According to the Disaster Management Centre of Sri Lanka, over 646,000 people have been affected and over 168,000 families have been rendered homeless, in addition to scores of deaths and injuries reported.

The Ministry of Disaster Management has made appeals to international donors as well as Sri Lankans living abroad and well wishes to contribute to the disaster relief operations.

In this regard, anyone who is interested in making financial contributions towards such relief work may do so by crediting funds through the Sri Lankan Missions abroad.

On receipt of such financial contributions, an official receipt with a title “Contributions to Flood Relief” will be issued to the contributors. The Mission subsequently will transfer such contributions to the Flood Relief Account set up by the Ministry of Disaster Management at the Bank of Ceylon.
