The High Commission of Sri Lanka in Singapore celebrated Christmas on the evening of 20th December 2024 at the premises of the High Commission. The Assistant Parish Priest of the Church of St. Mary of the Angels, Rev. Fr. Julian Mariaratnam, conducted prayers and invoked blessings for the gathering and to the motherland, creating a spiritually uplifting atmosphere.

Addressing the gathering, High Commissioner Senarath Dissanayake emphasised the profound values of Christmas – empathy, kindness, peace, and love for one another. He highlighted that these universal values transcend religious and cultural boundaries, underscoring their importance in fostering harmony and offering a shared framework for compassion and goodwill, especially in times of social and political divisions.

The evening was made memorable by the enchanting and melodious singing of the trilingual carol team, primarily comprising Sri Lankan migrant workers, who sang Christmas carols in Sinhala, Tamil, and English, symbolizing unity and diversity. The staff of the High Commission joined the carol singing by adding their selections to the repertoire.

The celebration concluded with a light meal featuring traditional Sri Lankan cuisine, offering attendees a taste of home and enhancing the spirit of togetherness.
