The Sri Lankan High Commission in Singapore participated in the International Cultural event on Saturday, 26 May 2012 at the Tiong Bahru Park. Singapore. The event was aimed at promoting social cohesiveness amongst residents while providing an opportunity to appreciate the various cultures and cultural activities. The event provided the mission with a platform to promote Sri Lanka in Singapore.
Highlights of the event included a Handicraft & Art Pavilions featuring handicrafts from various Asian, European and Middle Eastern countries. A booth was set up by the mission representing the country targeting tourism promotion and tea promotion. Furthermore, a number of Sri Lankan handy crafts were displayed and a cup of Sri Lankan tea was freely distributed to all visitors. The event was a great success with more than 8000 people attending the occasion. Mr. Chan Chun Sing, Minister for Community Development, Youth and Sports ,Ms Indranee Thurai Rajah MP for Tanjong Pagar GRC and The Mayor of Central Singapore District Mr Sam Tan Chin Siong also visited and enjoyed a cup of tea at the Sri Lankan booth.
