High Commission of Sri Lanka celebrates 73rd Anniversary of Independence in Singapore

 
The High Commission of Sri Lanka in Singapore celebrated the 73rd anniversary of Sri Lanka’s Independence at the premises of the High Commission on 4th February 2021. Due to COVID-19 pandemic restrictions the ceremony was held with the participation of religious dignitaries and the High Commission staff.
 
 
The ceremony commenced with the hoisting of the National Flag by High Commissioner Sashikala Premawardhane and the singing of the National Anthem followed by a two-minute silence in remembrance of all who sacrificed lives for the motherland.
 
 
Multi-faith religious observances were conducted by religious dignitaries to invoke blessings to the country and the people of Sri Lanka. The Independence Day Messages of the President, Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs were also read out at the ceremony.
 
 
High Commissioner in her remarks emphasised President Gotabaya Rajapaksa’s vision for Sri Lanka outlined in the national policy document “Vistas of Prosperity and Splendour”.
 
High Commissioner Sashikala Premawardhane while thanking the Singaporean Government for its assistance for several Sri Lanka’s development initiatives, highlighted the development activities and opportunities in the trade, investment and economic spheres of Sri Lanka. The High Commissioner thanked the Sri Lankan community in Singapore, Singaporean of Sri Lankan origin and Singaporean friends for their continued strong support for Sri Lanka’s development efforts.
 
The participants at the ceremony were served with a traditional breakfast at the occasion.
 
The High Commission will host a virtual event at 1700 hrs. (SGT) on 4th February 2021, with the participation of representatives and officials from the Government of Singapore, members of diplomatic corps, business community, academia, and a host of well-wishers to celebrate the 73rd Anniversary of Independence of Sri Lanka.
